Thank You Ma'am
Author's Note: This is my Thank You Ma'am Theme
Analysis essay.
In this short story,
called Thank You Ma'am( by Langston Hughes), the theme/ theme's would be Life
Struggles, Survival, Struggling for Hope, and Longing for Family.
Rodger tries to
steal Mrs. Jones money to have some support for food, and supplies, but also because he wants a new pair of Blue
Swayed Shoes. He kind of grew up thinking this was ok, until he meet Mrs.
Jones.
After Rodger got
caught trying to steal, Mrs. Jones took him home with her. She wanted him to
"wash up" and to eat. At the point of time when he was doing washing
up, he purposely sat in Mrs. Jones view to try to gain her trust back.
Another story that
has life struggle, survival and struggling for hope would be Hunger Games. Hunger Games fit's these themes
because the selected people are put in a game that is a 'fight for your life'
situation. Like the character's from district 12, Katniss and Peeta. They were
chosen (Katniss volunteered as tribute) to play the game, and have strong hopes
that one of them will survive for their district.
The Child Called It would be a book that would
include a longing for family theme, because it is one a kid who has a family;
but they don't treat him like he is part of it. He has no name, his mom and
everybody else calls him, It. He is used and abused by his mom and siblings,
and is left with no dad. He goes to school with bruises and scars from what his
family does to him. The reasoning he would be longing for a family is because
he get's taken away from his mom, and is kind of looking for someone else to
take him in as a child; just like Rodger is.
Rodger is a good kid
underneath it all. It just took Mrs. Jones putting some sense into him, for Rodger to realize to not give up.
Rodger realized that he can live and make it in life, without stealing his way
through it.
